Robbery

Robbery refers to the offense of taking anything that has value and does not belong to the offender by force, the threat of force or inflicting fear on the victim. Different jurisdictions define robbery in different ways. In the same vein, the facts that must be proven to satisfy a robbery claim may not be the same across the board.

One thing has, however, remained constant across jurisdictions, which is the clear distinction between robbery and other forms of theft (among which are shoplifting, car theft, or pickpocketing). While it is fundamentally stealing, robbery has been distinguished by the singular factor of violence or force that it involves. Another popular legal practice regarding the robbery is the classification of the crime as a felony compared to other forms of theft, which are mostly misdemeanors.

Even in its distinction, robbery can be further subdivided based on the facts of the case. Among these are armed robbery, aggravated robbery, carjacking, highway robbery, and mugging.

Robbery as a crime is broad in scope and technical in practice. However, with proper legal guidance and representation, it can be navigated effectively.
